Boo.

Happy Halloween! Thanks, Erick Tonight, my parents are coming in and I’ll be enjoying my evening of passing out that awful, strawberry candy to children and watching Criss Angel on SciFi… (definitely an influence of the robot aesthetic)

What is Passion?

Uncategorized

My working definition of “passion”: Passion is that thing you finally get to do when you come home, exhausted from your day job. It’s relentless, systemic tweaking, hour after hour, long after the rest of the world gave up on the day. Your passion commits paradigm violence and engages in intellectual gentrification. Passion is your insanity… your personal pathogen. Infect others. Infect them frequently. The rest be damned….

Robotic Competition

Uncategorized

I spent my Saturday being a referee (not fun when you make bad calls, incidentally) for a very cool robotic competition for students: Capitol Best. The contest was non-combative (although there was definitely some bumping and locking arms)… it boiled down to moving balloons around a ring… Balloons.. with robots… without popping… All teams had an identical kit of materials. It’s amazing what these students do with a box of junk. They also had to […]

Belinda is Cat Food

Uncategorized

There’s something about her orange, metallic head, rubber chicken looking legs, or bright, blue eyes that makes Belinda very attractive to cats. Amy was so very kind to send an utterly side-splitting 5-panel story which almost had me peeing my pants… It is titled, "She’s in critical condition but is expected to recover fully." Poor Belinda… Indeed. ALSO: Amy has an uber-cool store that sells origami paper at paperjade.com. You know you want some. Here […]

I reread this post right before sending it, and I can’t tell how obnoxious it might be… so apologies in advance if it’s arrogant, obnoxious, or both. okay. tonight was very cool. After a very pleasant dinner with Adina and Chip (Thank you, you two… it was very helpful to talk and joke and laugh. I have to say, as I was telling the story out loud, I realized how silly I must sound. I […]

Belinda by Emily

Uncategorized

Emily chimes in with an uber-cool reconfigured Belinda. That’s the good thing about robots… you can swap their limbs around and they keep … uh… smiling? Thank you Emily!!!

Belindas on the loose

Uncategorized

Sheila sent me a picture of her Belinda last night. Made me laugh out loud (THANK YOU). Belinda, the Star I have a few more sitting in my inbox that I need to upload that are also really cute. If YOU have a Belinda waiting to be built, I’d love to see what you come up with and will send you some additional robot models in return. Belinda Gallery

Night 1

The striking thing so far about JournalCon is that, as I’m walking around, it felt to me like women outnumber men by 2000 to 1 and they outnumber straight men 40000000 to 1… …and they’re all geekgrrls. So, yes, I’m having fun. Met quite a few people at the mixer, had BBQ (with new friends from far away places), and came back to hear some readings. And yes, I’ve been cruising again.
