Applescript to transform mail.app message to GTDAlt inbox item

Uncategorized

I’m currently using GTDAlt in TextMate as my GTD processing system. It’s a text based system, so it’s upgradable, portable, etc. Through the TextMate bundle framework, you get some nice collating of contexts, etc. GTDAlt does rely on some proprietary syntax, but it’s pretty basic and easily parsable. There is rudimentary support for iterating through items in an inbox.txt file to generate GTD items. I created an applescript which will take the selected message in […]

Applescript that archives NetNewsWire post to DEVONThink Pro

Uncategorized

As a refinement to an earlier script I posted, I made some modifications to my suggested news reading workflow. The applescript in this post will take the currently selected article in NetNewsWire, prompt the user for tags about the article, and then create a web archive of the article in DEVONThink. It attaches the referral URL to the DEVONThink record, so when it creates the archive, it will actually fetch the article from the original […]

Displaying tags on mephisto

Uncategorized

The mephisto liquid tags, drops, and filters are not very well documented. You have to look in the source code (specifically drop_filters.rb) to discover what’s available. I was able to add rendering of tags/keywords by using: {{article | linked_tag_list}} in my template.

Applescript to import NNW smart folder into Yojimbo

Uncategorized

Today I modified this script which facilitates Yojimbo importing from NetNewsWire I’ve set up a smart folder in NetNewsWire that grabs the latest 50 flagged headlines from any feed. I needed this script because I had a technorati watch feed for dorkbot and I wanted to collect blog mentions to send around. I was just flagging articles that mentioned dorkbot-austin and wanted to export a list of bookmarks. With this, the workflow is now: Quickly […]

Tartuffe + Chat

Uncategorized

I’m providing the chat server for the Yellow Tape Construction Co. performance of I Am Not Tartuffe. The intent is to provide an interactive experience for the show-goers bringing laptops — the back-channel as performance art. I set them up with PHPFreeChat on a mac mini with a local wireless network. I have no idea what the play is about, but it promises to be weird and fun. The Unoffical Geek’s Guide to Getting Over Yourself at SxSW — 2007 Edition

Uncategorized

For the past couple of years, I wrote The Unofficial Geek Guide to Getting Over Yourself at SxSW Interactive. This is the new version for 2007. It’s mostly the same. I’m kinda the same. My relentless friendliness is the same. Regardless, I’m looking forward to meeting you. (Unashamed plug: check out dorkbot on Saturday evening, 6:00PM right across the street from the convention center – free beer, robots, and tesla coils!)) The Unofficial Geek Guide […]

If you want it done right…

Uncategorized

I have spent way too many hours of my life searching for the ideal GTD system. I’ve been through ‘em all: diy planner, kinkless, frictionless, tracks, index cards, printable ceo, and even plain text files. Usually, I’ll spend an entire afternoon just transferring data back and forth… precious, irretrievable minutes lost on pointless migrations. Every platform comes very close to being good enough to trust. However, all of them fall short for various reasons. ANY […]

Austin Blogger Meetup tonight

Uncategorized

There is another of the monthly austinbloggers meetups tonight: Austin Bloggers’ Monthly Get-Together at Central Market (Lamar & 38th) Wed, 16-Aug-2006, 07:00PM There is some additional info about them that I wrote, literally, years ago. Adina Levin also wrote an interesting article about community sites that references the group. Austinbloggers.org grew out of get-togethers of local bloggers. We wanted to have a shared space to post about austin. So we gathered around tables at Mozarts, […]
